What amplifier should i use for my sub woofers?

What are the rules for buying an Amplifier for sub woofers? Say if i got 2 10" subs that are 1000 Watts each, how big do i nee the amp to be? Also if it says like 2 x 1000 Watts is that ok? And what does the RMS have to do with it?

RMS has everything to do with it. When that sub say 1000 watts peak, that means absolutely nothing at all, what so ever. Never go by peak, always go by RMS.
If your subs are say 1000 watts rms each, then you will want a 2000 watt rms amp and make it a mono block. Now for the amp to actually deliver 2000 watts rms, things like OHMs come into play. Depending on how many OHMs your subs are would depend on how much power the amp will deliver to your subs. Many times an amp that delivers more than 1000 watts rms will deliver that power at the 1 OHM stage. If your subs are dual voice coil subs and each voice coil is 4 OHMs, you can wire them down to 1 OHM and get the most out of that amp.
