What's Smart Wiring?

Smart wiring refers to the process of wiring your home, generally during construction, for every possible future contingency. This means that your electrician can install everything your home needs to operate now and in the future so you can avoid having to rewire as technological advances take place.

The wiring system will include things like pay TV, sound systems, computer and Internet connections, phone and fax lines, home security, intelligent lighting and other automatic services. But you are not limited to using a patented ‘Smart Wiring' package.

Hard wiring also has an advantage over wireless technology. At this stage wireless installations are only able to cope with low-level digital content, whereas a smart wired house will have no trouble handling the huge data content demanded by the most modern audiovisual systems.

As stated here, you are not limited to using patented system, you can simply choose the services you wish and plan the installation during the construction or renovation phase. This way, when you are ready for your new TV installation it will be a simple matter of plug and play.

How do I connect Sony Bravia home theater speakers to the prewired cables in my home?

I have a new construction and they have wired my home for surround sound which include two wall plates in the front and two in the rear or the living room. Inside of these white plates is a role of white cable that looks like it has two wires inside the conduit. The Sony system I brought come with cables that you attach to the speakers and is color coded to attach back to the main system/unit. Is it possible to connect the included wiring with the Sony system to the prewires in my home? If so, how? Am I suppose to buy some type of connector/converter, or rerun the wiring? (Hope not : / )

You can use the wires/cables you have. Use the wires you have to connect the back of your receiver to the wall plates in the front. Use another set of speaker wires to connect the speakers to the wall plates in the back.

(Or if what you have is long enough, simply cut it in half and strip the ends to get two sets of wires)
