What is the best way to Enclose a Ceiling Speaker?

I have a ranch style house and have installed speakers in the ceiling. The problem is that their is blown in insulation which is not good for the speaker. I need to enclose the speaker. Does anyone have any ideas?

Many ceiling speakers already have an enclosure - but if you are sure yours do not, the best option is to get enclosures that are made for your specific speaker. If you can figure out the make and model of your speaker, you can go to the manufacturer's website and see if there is an enclosure made for them.

If you really want to do this yourself, an easy way to prevent the insulation from getting into the speaker is to place some pieces of wood up in the ceiling to block the insulation from reaching the speaker. A couple of pieces of two by four should work well. If the ceiling is open, this will be easy. Just cut the wood to span the distance between the ceiling joists. You would be making an open box surrounding the back of the speaker.
