When it comes to your vehicle's sub woofer box, bigger is not always better. But you do not want one that is too small either. What do you do?

Why is proper sizing of the sub woofer box important? The main reason is because proper sizing allows for proper placement in your vehicle. Proper placement means that you and your passengers will all enjoy the same high quality sound from your stereo whether sitting in the front, back or on the left or right.

You can buy a pre-fab sub woofer box, or have one custom made. The cost to have a sub woofer box custom made is not as much as you might think. If you have made a solid investment in stereo equipment for your car or truck, the cost of a custom sub woofer box is well worth it. Otherwise, the money you have invested in stereo equipment might as well be tossed around in your car - like the sound from an improperly sized subwoofer box will distribute sound.

Buying a pre-made sub woofer box is fine, too, as long as you get the right size for your vehicle. It just makes sense that a Toyota Tacoma would need a different size sub woofer box than a larger vehicle like a Dodge Ram Quad Cab. Along the same lines, a large vehicle wouldn't want to be stuck with a sub woofer that's too small to handle the output needed to create quality sound.

When you're interested in producing quality stereo sound in your vehicle, don't overlook details. While having "the right size" sub woofer box in your car or truck may seem like an aesthetics issue, remember that the right size means the box can be positioned in the right place, leading to a maximized auto audio experience!

What should I do about my car audio system?

Ok this is a several part question...

1-I just got 4 new polk DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial speakers for my 05 saturn quad-coupe ion. I had a friend install them and the speakers are working, but there is a lot more vibration than before. Could poor instillation cause this?

2-if it's the speakers, should I get dynamat? If yes, do you know of any places that will install?

3- for bass (since there really isn't all that much coming from the speakers) I am going to get a subwoofer...or 2? I have a 4-channel 950 watt amp I want to use. I am going to get a 12" with a sealed box. I'm interested in the deep sound not so much the punch. Would it be best to get one with higher watts or two with smaller watts?

I'm obviously not that knowledgeable with cars so I'd appriciate any advice you have.

first off, when you hear the vibration, can you make it stop by pressing on the door panel? if so then the panel was reinstalled wrong. if not then i would recommend dynamat. i have a lot of it in my car and it works wonders! it is very easy to install. the hardest part is removing your door panels again.
Second off, if you are interested in deep boomy bass then i would use a ported/vented box. if you prefer tight punchy bass then the sealed box is your favorite.
the amp you mentioned, will you be connecting your polk speakers to it as well as the sub(s)? if so i would wire the Polk's in pairs + to + and - to - and the other two the same way. this way you have all 4 speakers on the front channel of the amp and you can use the rear channel for the subwoofer. you will only be able to run a single sub of 4 ohms on this rear channel. anything more will clip the amp or damage it. i would use the 4 channel amp for my 4 Polk speakers and purchase a mono amp for my sub(s). multi channel amps are not as efficient at pushing low notes to subs like a mono or 1 channel amp. using a amp on your Polk speakers will really wake them up and make them sound like they should.
