what is causing my 1998 s-10 speakers to cut out when I am driving?

when i turn on my truck the speakers will play, but sometimes a few seconds later, even before the truck is moving, my speakers will cut out, or sometimes they will work for 20 minutes and then cut out. I know it's not my cd player that isn't working.
